Nifty Consumption index surges 2%; Hindustan Unilever, Nestle shine

The Nifty Consumption index jumped 2% after India’s Manufacturing PMI index expanded to 55.3 in January from 52.7 in December. The index was up at 5,062.20 levels.
Shares of Hindustan Unilever zoomed 5.5%. followed by Nestle and Asian Paints whaic soared 5% each, Britannia, Crompton, Bajaj Auto, Colgate and DMart were also up over 3-4%, respectively.



Page Industries, IndiGo, Dabur, Maruti and Bharti Airtel are up over 2%.

On the flip side, Piramal Ent, ITC, Hero MotoCorp, ZEE, UBL and Tata Power were down on the Nifty Consumption index.

Meanwhile, equity benchmark indices have erased partial gains in the afternoon trade, with the Nifty below 11,700-mark. The Sensex is up 27 points at 39,762 levels.

Nestle, HUL, Asian Paints and Britannia among top gainers on the Nifty, while Infratel, Yes Bank, ITC and Hero MotoCorp were top laggards.

The most active stocks on the NSE are Reliance, SBI, ITC and ICICI Bank.

Shares of AGC Networks, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, Nestle India, Ruchi Soya Industries, Sirca Paints India, Unitech and Visesh Infotecnics hit a 52-week high on the NSE.
