Equity benchmark indices extended the losses in the morning trade after
hitting fresh record highs in the opening trade. Profit selling emerged
as firmness in crude oil prices affected market sentiment.
The Nifty fell below the 12,300 level, down 57 points and the Sensex dropped 179 points at 41,767. The market breadth turned negative on the NSE, about 662 shares have advanced, 1,055 shares declined, and 439 shares are unchanged.
The broader market traded near the flat line. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.01% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 0.02%.
Kotak Mahindra Bank was down 1% ahead of Q3 result today.
Shares of TCS fell 2% after the company reported a mixed bag of financial numbers for the quarter ended December 31, with the company posting its slowest revenue growth in eight quarters, though it improved profitability.
