Equity benchmark indices extended declined for the third session and hit fresh intraday low on Monday. The Sensex and Nifty traded nearly 1% down led by losses in HDFC twins, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance and HUL.
The domestic unit slipped 21 paise down at 69.01 against the US dollar on account of some buying in American currency by banks and importers amid sustained selling by foreign institutional investors.
The Nifty Bank index was trading lower by 1.7% at 29,254. The index opened at 29,617 and hit lower at 29,240.95. RBL Bank fell sharply by 5% followed by HDFC Bank, Federal Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and IDFC First Bank.
On the flip side, Yes Bank surged 8% and also among the top gainers in the Bank Nifty index, followed by ICICI Bank and Axis Bank.
